Tendai Makurumbandi

Tendai Makurumbandi is a Zimbabwean-born choreographer, performer, cultural leader, and PhD artistic researcher based in Norway. His work moves between choreography, performance, institutional practice, and artistic research, with a focus on how the body becomes a place where power, belonging, memory, and resistance are felt, questioned, and transformed.

He is the founder and artistic director of IN2IT International Dance Festival, a platform for cultural exchange, inclusion, and artistic dialogue that has developed over more than a decade into an important meeting place for artists and audiences across cultures. He is also Daglig leder / General Manager of Dansekraft AS – Kompetansesenter for Dansekunst i Møre og Romsdal, where he works to strengthen the infrastructure for dance in the region and develop new relationships between artistic practice, public health, community, and cultural policy.

Tendai’s choreographic practice is grounded in decolonial thought, Southern African movement knowledge, ritual, and embodied research. His works include Dis(placed) Shadows, MY SONG, and Not My Bones. MY SONG premiered at CODA Oslo International Dance Festival and received the Heddaprisen for Best Performance in 2023.
